Two additional mood disorders, dysthymic disorder and cyclothymic disorder have also been appreciated clinically for some time. Dysthymic disorder and cyclothymic disorder are characterized by the presence of symptoms that are less severe than those of major depressive disorder and bipolar 1 disorder.
DSM-IV-TR defines dysthymic disorder as characterized by at least 2 years of depressed mood that is not sufficiently severe to fit the diagnosis of major depressive episode.
Treatment of dysthymic disorder can not just rely on other forms of treatment with pharmacotherapy. Other forms of psychotherapy treatment as objectively support such as therapy and cognitive behavior therapy would be more effective for the treatment of dysthymic disorder.
Cyclothymic disorder is mood disorders that characterized by at least 2 years of frequently occurring hypomanic symptoms that cannot fit the diagnosis of manic episode and of depressive symptoms that cannot fit the diagnosis of major depressive episode.
Treatment of dysthymic disorder can not just rely on other forms of treatment with pharmacotherapy. Other forms of psychotherapy treatment as objectively support such as therapy and cognitive behavior therapy would be more effective for the treatment of dysthymic disorder.
