Risk of Depression in Fans of Heavy Metal Music

Teenage fans of heavy metal music, at risk of suffering from depressive disorders. Genre of music that can be deafening as heavy metal is the darling of people, especially among young people. But parents seem to need to be wary if their teens too much in love 'genre' of this music. Because teens who listen 'loud music heavy metal' at risk of depression and suicide.

A study conducted by Katrina McFerran from Melbourne University, Australia, for five years found that heavy metal music causes of mental disorders in some adolescents aged 13 to 18 years. Mood disorders are the most common effect in this case, especially depressive disorders.

"Most young people listen to different music for a positive purpose: against noise, improves mood, or providing energy during exercise. But young people are more likely at risk of developing depression because of listening the music in a negative way, especially heavy metal music," says McFerran as quoted by the Herald Sun, Friday (10/21/2011).

McFerran says other music genres like rap, rock and pop do not have the same result as the heavy metal genre. According to him, the teenager loved the flow of heavy metal as an escape from reality. Some of the music played, it has been thought to reflect the pain that is felt, thus making them feel not alone.

But the results of this study also found that some teens who listen the music 'genre of heavy metal' can feel the mood is improved. Parents are advised to ask their children about what he felt after listening to heavy metal music. And if the children are in a sad or disappointed, they should stop listening to.
